The last few months have proved to be bad for the Indian telecom industry. Ever since Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea have increased the prices of mobile recharge plans, mobile users are leaving the network of these companies and closing their mobile numbers. The step taken by private companies has also proved to be loss-making for the country’s telecom industry. TRAI’s new report has revealed that there has been a huge decline in the number of telephone users in the country and Mukesh Ambani’s company Reliance Jio has suffered the most. Further, the shocking figures of the TRAI report have been shared.
Telephone users decreased in the country
Through the latest TRAI report, it has been revealed that at the beginning of this year i.e. on January 31, 2022, the total telephone subscribers in the country were 1,169.46 million. This count stood at 1,178.41 million during December 2021. That is, 8.95 million i.e. about 89,50,000 people have stopped their telecom service in January 2022 as compared to December 2021. Talking about wireless subscribers only, there has been a huge decline of 9.38 million i.e. about 93,80,000.
93,22,583 users left Jio
There has been a big decrease in the number of mobile users in the country. The biggest part of this decline has gone to Reliance Jio. According to the TRAI report, in January 2022, more than 93 lakh Jio users have left the company’s network. While some of these people have closed their Jio number, some have got their Jio number ported to another telecom company’s network. Leaving this large number of Jio networks is a matter of concern for both Reliance Jio and Mukesh Ambani.
