Nirmala Sitharaman, India’s Finance Minister, revealed today during the presentation of Budget 2022 that India’s 5G spectrum auction will take place this year alone, and that 5G deployment will begin next year by commercial telecom carriers like Airtel, Jio, or Vi.
Many commercial telecom providers have been conducting testing of the 5G network in India in various areas in order to effectively deploy 5G. While no specific date has been set for this year’s auction, rumors suggest that it will take place in the first quarter of 2022.

The Finance Minister stated during the budget presentation that the essential spectrum auction for 5G deployment will take place in 2022. She also stated that the 5G deployment in India will begin in the fiscal year 2022-23.
According to an earlier story in the Economic Times, carriers undertaking 5G testing in India secured a six-month extension from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), which ended on November 26.
